Cinema Vision India (CVI) is the producer of the epoch-making series, Surabhi(Fragrance), which became a cult Programme in the search for individual identity. Surabhi was a weekly programme telecast at Prime Time on the National Network for more than a decade, entering the Limca book of Records as India’s longest running television show with the highest ever measured viewership (1.4 million letters in a week!).CVI has won several major Television Awards and three National Awards and has produced more than 100 documentaries and several long running Television series for leading Television Channels in India.
CVI’s Audio Visual Archive houses over 15,000 hours of video footage, India’s largest private collection, which includes some rare and fascinating images and insights into Indian, Asian and African culture, including monuments, religious sites, destinations,archaeological sites, textile and design, arts & crafts, communities, cuisine, festivals,fairs, sports and martial arts, health & human interest, personalities, dance, music,amazing feats and the paranormal, not only from India, but also from Asia and Africa.
Producer and Host
Siddharth Kak is a well known Television personality and a familiar face for Indian Television audiences nationwide, following his immensely popular cult cultural show `Surabhi’ (Fragrance), which ran for a record of 11 years at Prime Time on Indian National Television (1991-2001). Siddharth Kak’s Television Company, Cinema Vision India, has won several major Television Awards and three National Awards and has produced more than 100 documentaries and several long running Television series for leading Television Channels in India. In collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Siddharth Kak is at present producing, hosting and telecasting a top rated daytime show on Skills and Enterprise called HUNNARBAAZ! Mission Skill India! telecast on Doordarshan National, for the Prime Minister’s Skill Mission.
Siddharth Kak is also the Founder Trustee of the Surabhi Foundation for Research and Cultural Exchange (Surabhi FORCE) which is developing projects of National Cultural importance including a Living Heritage Centre in Navi Mumbai.
Siddharth Kak has served variously as a Member and Chairperson (twice) of the National Short Feature Film Awards (Govt. of India), Chairperson of the Selection Committee for the Indian Panorama, International Film Festival, Goa, Govt. of India, a member of the Shilp Guru Selection Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, the International Selection Panel of Judges of the “UNESCO-Seal of Excellence for Handicrafts” Award and member of the Suraj Kund Mela Authority which administers India’s largest annual Crafts Festival. He has been a member of the Governing Board of the Central University of Jammu and the Executive Council of the Central University of Kashmir.
Siddharth Kak, a well known foodie, has written food columns for many national newspapers and has also produced and directed two very successful food shows, `The Good Food Guide’ anchored by todays leading Food Consultant and Author, Karen Anand and the `Star Sunday Lunch’, India’s first ever televised food game show. He has also published a book of poetry `Looking in Looking out’ (Writers Workshop, Kolkatta) and compiled a quiz book on India’s heritage `Surabhi ke Sau Sawaal’, published by Rupa & Co.
